Dance marathon at the Tallinn Open 2017 tournament

On 25-26.11.2017 our club took part in the largest international tournament in Estonia.

Congratulations to our dancecouples with their achievements in this tournament.

The title of our article "dance marathon" was not accidental. For the representatives of our club, Nikita Shchurov and Angelina Ignatieva, this tournament was a real challenge. They took part in 5 dance categories. And that's why we start our article with a story about them.

For some reason, the organizers of the tournament formed the schedule not in the most convenient way, placing some children's categories one after another. Thus, Nikita and Angelina, having completed a category, only managed to change the number and immediately ran back out onto the parquet floor. And so from tour to tour. All in all, during the competition, Nikita and Angelina danced 72 dances. Nevertheless, the children did not give up and danced all the tours in all competitions reaching the finals.

It was a heroic deed! Congratulations to Nikita and Angelina and we are proud of you.

The results of the performance by Nikita Shchurov and Angelina Ignatieva:

1 place Juvenile D standard category (from 1/8 finals)

1 place Juvenile D Latin category (from 1/8 finals)

Hallo, is this a dance school?

«Hello! Hello, is this a dance school? Is it too late for me to start dancing?

- Do you have groups for beginners? And for those who have never danced?

- And how about big people? And if I am stiff? Is there? yes? Excellent! And is it going to be too difficult for me?

- Are there groups for older people? And for pensioners? There are? very good!

- Have classes already begun?" Already two whole lessons have passed?!? Nuu, then I'd better come in a year, and then how will I catch up with the group …»

This is how a working days of the dance school telephone administrator looks like 😉

Probably some of you will smile but let's try to deal with these and other issues that plague brave men and women who have decided to realize their dream and learn how to dance.

Ballroom dancing or DanceSport is quite popular. And like in any sport, the earlier you started your dance career, the more chances you have for sports achievements and titles. But to tell the truth dance is not only a sport or stage art.

Dance is in the nature of every man, it is the language of communication. It is a wonderful, worthy leisure and an opportunity to learn something new at any age.

So we can say for sure - if you want to dance, then it's not too late for you! If you want to study, then it means you have come to classes on time!

"Do not be ashamed to learn in adulthood: it's better to learn late than never." - Aesop

There are widespread doubts among adults and the fact that they are "not suitable" for dancing or that a "special physical talent» is needed for dancing.

We propose to perceive something you do not like about yourself, in your body, in the way how you move, not as a sentence or a diagnosis, but as a school task that needs to be solved. And dance classes will help you in this.

We would like to dispel another typical fear of a dance beginner - how to come to classes in a group that has already started and not be disgraced. In our school, where students respect students, teachers use all their experience and professionalism to ensure that a beginner of any age in the group, especially in his first classes, feels comfortable and does not experience negative emotions due to the fact that something does not work.

In beginner groups we implemented a modular training system to solve the problem of integrating newcomers with zero experience into a group:

The bottom line is when moving from a simple topic to a more complex one in every lesson, we always learn something new for everyone present. Of course, the one for whom such topic is not the first in his training, will cope with the material faster and easier. But the newcomer will have a chance, and there will be no feeling that "everyone already knows how to do it , and I do not."

Summarizing the results. Dance is an amazing planet where everyone can discover something new, and at the same time discover something new in themselves. If you want to learn to move beautifully to music, you have such an opportunity. If you are already in the dance - keep it up, do not give up - is all you have to do.

It turns out, once you found the strength to begin, the most difficult test is over! Next step is to give yourself a chance and to be a bit patient!

If dancing for you is not where you are going tonight, but a dream come true - you are more then welcome to our courses for adult.

Dancing through pain… our success at Grand Prix in Hamina!

On the 6th of May 2017 this spring's last national Grand Prix was organized in Hamina.

After yet another competitive break, it was a true pleasure to see our award winning dance duo, world champions Timo Lindfors and Ekaterina Krutovskaya-Kauppinen once more on the floor.  This due proved again that they are the best, winning every dance of their competition. This couple made a decision to participate in this competition despite Timo's leg injury, which constantly reminded of its existence during the competition. The power of will and dedication is something that differentiates Timo and Ekaterina from other dancers. This is not the first time that they have to fight for the first place with the cost of pain. After all, a real athlete is distinguished precisely by the fact that he trains and competes not only when he feels well!

Our congratulations to Riikka Koponen and Guilio Petrilli, who won silver, medals in the Adult category's European program.

Our congratulations go also to Aleksi Savolainen and Anastasia Huopalainen who for the first time made it to the finals in the Junior 2 Latin program.

Finnish Open 2017, We did it!

Last month has been filled with pressure and sense of responsibility at our club. This is because each March our club organizes its’ biggest event of the year – Finnish Open Dance Sport Championships, for which we prepare all year round.

This year’s event was our grand events’ anniversary as it is the 5th time, that we have organized the Finnish Open. The first ever Finnish Open was organized in March 2013. After 5 years of existence Finnish Open hasn’t only become the biggest dance sport event in Finland, but it has also become one of the most prestigious, meaningful and biggest tournaments in the world of dance sport. In 2014 we signed a contract with the World Dance Sport Federation who in return granted our club a permission to host and organize the Grand Slam competition as part of our Finnish Open tournament for the time period of 2015 – 2017. This has been a huge and an ambitious project. Today we can say proudly that we made it! We made it from the beginning until the very end, fulfilling all the obligations and completing all the tasks that we have faced. According to the evaluation of World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF), Grand Slam Helsinki was the best amongst all other Grand Slams in the series.

Similarly to previous years our tournament had gathered top-level dancers from all around the world and in comparison to previous years the amount of participants has grown drastically.

We want to thank the organizational team of volunteers, whom have worked hard in making this event possible for the past 5 years. Amongst these volunteers we want to specially thank Diana Pushkina, Sergey Shaykhulin, Galina Borovskaya and the event organizer Sergey Belyaev. Winter Master 2017

On the 18th of February our club organized an internal competition ”Winter Champion” – of 2017. This event was created for the kids who are just starting their career in show and competitive dancing. Our young dancers of ages between 4 and 13 participated in this competition’s various categories. All of our participants got a medal and thus became bronze, silver and gold medalists.

Our event gathered so many people that even our 1000 square meter studio felt small. This didn’t bother our team spirit though, as they say, the more the merrier.

Master's dance teams are now the best in Finland!

During the weekend of 21-22.05.2016 on of Finland’s most important dance tournaments took place in the city of Salo. This tournament is called the national age group tournament and in it, different age groups compete to gain the title of the best in Finland. This tournament specifically holds the team competitions among juniors and children, in which the best teams in Finland are to be recognized. This event was a closing point of the season and soon enough all dancers will be off to their summer holidays.

For our club in particular this event went more than well. Our main achievement during this tournament was a double win in both children’s and junior’s team competitions. There are two similar competitions held annually and our club has won the team competition before, but this time we trained hard enough to get both. Never before has this been achieved by any other club in Finland.

In the team competitions held for held for children, two different teams represented our club. Out of a total of 16 different teams from our both teams made it to the finals having their final placement at the 4th and 1st place.

Similarly two teams of our club represented at the competition held for juniors. Out of 13 teams competing, our both teams made it to the finals having their final placements at the 3rd and 1st places.

We want to congratulate our whole club for this awesome win. We want to give special attention to our strongest support group that was made out of parents.

This victory is a victory for all of us!
